This laid-back, north central Seattle neighborhood is home to Seattle's current mayor, Mike McGinn. Its nebulous boundaries blur together with Phinney Ridge to the extent that the two neighborhoods share a Chamber of Commerce and a blog called "Phinneywood." The main business district, Greenwood Avenue, is located between North 85th and North 87th Street and has a small-town feel. It’s home to local businesses such as Naked City Brewery, Taproom, and Sip 'n' Ship, a combination espresso bar and mailroom. The heart of Greenwood sits atop a peat bog.
The neighborhood hosts the "Greenwood Classic Car Show" which began in 1993 and is traditionally held on the last Saturday in June. Another event is the "Greenwood Seafair Parade", held on the last Wednesday in July. Both events draw thousands of visitors to the neighborhood annually.
At the center of the neighborhood is Greenwood Park, which features running paths and a playground. A dedicated group of volunteers called the Friends of Greenwood Park (FOGP) have worked with the Seattle Parks and Recreation staff to develop a new park on the site of the former Otani Greenhouses at 87th and Fremont Avenue North.
