Mount Baker

Mount Baker is a distinctive, old residential neighborhood tucked between Rainier Avenue and the shores of Lake Washington, just south of I-90. Rainier Valley is to the West, Genesee to the south and Leschi to the north. Its name comes from the stunning views of Mt. Baker in Whatcom County that can be seen nearly 100 miles away across the lake.  Mount Baker is a geographically diverse area, offering a mix of parklands, lakefront, wooded hills, and quiet residential streets and boulevards. The people are just as varied as the terrain with a demographic mix of ethnic and economic backgrounds. The neighborhood was developed in the early 1900’s with classic "Seattle box" homes mixed with parkland along the hillside that slopes down to the lake. Mount Baker was carefully planned to incorporate many green spaces and parks such as Colman Park, Mount Baker Park, Mount Baker Beach, and Mount Baker Boulevard South, a winding, park-like residential street that bisects the neighborhood. Cascadia Avenue is an especially lovely street as it follows the ridge of the hillside that slopes down to the lake and is lined with exquisite homes.

Mount Baker Beach features grassy picnic areas and a dock, and is a popular summertime recreation spot. This is also a great viewing location for the very popular hydroplane races.

The Mount Baker Community Club is a community-supported neighborhood club and clubhouse that was founded in 1909. It hosts a Homes Tour every December, an annual Day in the Park festival (featuring a kids' parade and bake sale), and offers workshops in fitness, arts and crafts, T'ai Chi, and various activities for kids.

Mount Baker is serviced by Mount Baker High School, a Registered Historic Landmark built in 1912.
